Led by Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP has achieved resounding victory in Zilla Panchayat and Taluka Panchayat by-polls. BJP swept all 3 Zilla Panchayats (Sabarkantha, Mehsana and Porbandar). Earlier, BJP had just one, while two were with the Congress Party.
Similarly, polls were held in 19 Taluka Panchayats – Valsad, Surat, Tapi, Bharuch, Vadodara, Panchmahal, Dahod, Anand, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Rajkot and Junagadh. Out of these, BJP won in 12, leaving just 7 for the Congress. Earlier, Congress had 15 of these seats, while BJP had just 4.
The latest victory in Panchayat polls after the clean sweep in four Assembly and two Lok Sabha by-polls last month, is seen as a mandate to Narendra Modi’s good governance and his quest to enter the national political arena.
