TNI Bureau: Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan resigned as the in-charge of Maha Kumbh Mela over the stampede that left 37 people dead at the Allahabad Railway Station. He submitted the resignation taking the responsibility of the tragedy.
However, Uttar Pradesh Panchayati Raj Minister Balram Yadav said that no lapses were there on the part of the state government. He along with transport minister Durga Prasad has been directed to go to Allahabad and monitor the situations over there.
However, the reason of the stampede is yet unknown. UP Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani said that that official will investigate who is responsible for the incident.
Union Railway Minister Minister PK Bansal said that no negligence has been done from government’s side on the arrangement for pilgrims to travel to and from Allahabad station. A total of 27 special trains have been arranged so far and more trains will be available for Kumbh Mela.
Meanwhile, the death toll increased to 37 including 7 men, 29 women, one baby and 39 others are injured. The Railway ministry has announced Rs 1 lakh additional compensation for the families of the dead.
