Assam: Congress Leader beaten by Villagers for Rape Attempt

TNI Bureau: A Congress leader of Assam was accused of attempting to rape a woman and he was beaten up by the villagers publicly before being handed over to police. The accused Bikrmasingh Brahma is the chief coordinator of the party in Bodoland Territorial Council area.

Bikrmasingh allegedly tried to rape a woman at her house in Salbari in Chirang district on Wednesday night. However, he could not flee and the villagers caught him and beat him up for the crime.

After he was handed over to police, he was not arrested. But, under public pressure police said that the politician will be arrested.

Assam police said that the case has been registered against the politician and he will be arrested.

Bikrmasingh had been sexually abusing the woman for past several months alluring her to give her benefits under government schemes.
