ASBM-Bhubaneswar organizes 5th International Management Convention

Asian School of Business Management, Bhubaneswar organized the 5th International Management Convention in its premises on 15 and 16 January 2016 on the theme “Global Business: Creating, Performing and Sustaining.” Delegates from 10 countries like Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Singapore & South Korea, Nepal and USA presented in the convention.

The inaugural session had Dr. Dave Harris, Dean, St. Cloud State University, USA as the chief guest of the occasion discussed the importance and ways of standing tall in the crowd. He stressed on learning other cultures, soft skills, and foreign languages. He also encouraged the students to take courses on selling and consulting having internships before graduating as management students. He gave an important insight saying, “success is not about how much money you have today, rather it is about waking up in the morning and enjoying what you do”.  Dr. Alby Anand Kurian, Professor, MDI of Singapore spoke about the changing paradigms of the global business. He mentioned that we are a member of a global family. He emphasized on importance of having larger goal rather than the intention of earning money. Shri. Yahya Mir, Capacity Development & Civil Aviation Technical Advisor, UNDP, Canada shared his experiences about the challenges of global business and stated that challenges, complexity, and ambiguity in business make it grow. Prof. Soo Yeon Kim, Director, International Youth Fellowship, South Korea stressed on the importance of aspects like change in mind, technological advancement and communicative efficiency in globalization.

Dr. Kalyan Shankar Ray, Dean, ASBM, introduced the guests to the audience while Dr Biswajeet Pattanayak introduced the theme after welcoming the guests. He said that global business is no more confined to export and import. Today, global business means expansion of business globally. He elaborated on the opportunities and challenges of global business and cited several examples of international mergers and acquisitions to illustrate the extent of global business.

The inaugural session of the International Convention came to an end with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Mrutyunjaya Das, the coordinator of the convention.

The post-lunch session witnessed a round table discussion on the topic “Role of Management Education in Sustaining Global Business” with eminent speakers like Dr.  Arabinda Tripathy, Former Professor, IIM Ahmedabad & Dean VGSoM, Mr. Shekhar Murthy, President, IIC Academy, IIC Technologies Ltd., Mr. Nishit Jain, Senior Advisor Asia, EFMD, Brussels, Belgium, and Mr. A. Thothathri Raman, Chairman, SEAA Trust.

The  discussion was followed by a soothing event “Mind Education” by a team from International Mind Education Institution (IMEI) consisting Korean and Maxican musicians. The team came up with soothing and scintillating performances like dance for happiness, songs, music, and one-man melody which was followed by a cultural programme by students of ASBM.

The second day of the event witnessed four technical sessions on the sub theme Nurturing Workforce, Managing Finance, Exploring Market and Innovating Technology. In the valedictory function Dr. Sachidananda Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Odisha graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Shri Ashok Kumar bal, CEO, India Mining Operations, Essel Mining & Industries Ltd and Dr. Omkar Nath Mohanty, Former Vice-Chancellor, BPUT graced the occasion as Guest of Eminence. On this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, Director, ASBM & Chairman of this International Convention has given road map for the future.

The introduction of the Guests in the valedictory function was given Dr. Kalyan Shankar Ray, Dean, ASBM and Vote of thanks proposed by Shri G. Upadhyaya, Former CMD, NALCO.
