Arvind Kejriwal breaks 14-day long Fast in Delhi

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, who was on hunger strike in New Delhi against inflated power and water bills, finally broke his fast on Saturday after 14 days. He claimed that over a lakh of Delhities have signed up for the Civil Disobedience Movement and the protest will continue.

Kejriwal had been on fast since March 23 at Sundar Nagari, a slum redevelopment cluster in northeast Delhi. He promised that power rates would be cut by half and water upto 20 kilolitres would be free for each family and all arrears of inflated water bills will be slashed if his party comes to power in November in Delhi.

On Friday, he had announced the second phase of civil disobedience movement. He broke the fast today – the anniversary of event when Mahatma Gandhi broke the Salt Act on completion of Dandi March on April 6, 1930. He said promised that the houses, which faced power disconnection for not paying inflated bills, will be reconnected soon.

Earlier today, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) President JP Agarwal had lashed out at Kejriwal for repeatedly targeting the Sheila Dikshit government. He alleged his fast is ‘a drama’ with a political motive.
