Artificial Salt Crisis created in Coastal Odisha

After the onions and potatoes, it was the turn of Salt to create panic in the markets of Coastal Odisha, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. But, this time, it was not a genuine problem, but a crisis triggered by some vested interests to achieve their self-goal.

The rumour of shortage of salt began in Nayagarh and spread to Puri, Cuttack, Khordha, Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur and other areas in the Coastal region. A panic button was pressed, triggering huge crisis yesterday. People lined up to buy salt in huge quantity. As compared to the market price of Rs 10 per kg, Salt was sold at Rs 20-30 and then went up to Rs 60 per kg before being vanished from the market.

The market intelligence wing of the Odisha Government, has completely collapses, as the traders and hoarders had a great time. The government intervened after several hours, assured the people that salt was available in huge quantity and restored normalcy in the market. But, it was too late and the damage was already done.

The Salt stock of two months was finished in just a single day on Monday. However, enough stock is still available to meet the daily needs of the people. The government has announced a toll free number 155335 for the convenience of common people. Any illegal activities by the traders and vendors can be reported at this toll free number.
