Army recommends Probe against Gen VK Singh

Less than a week after he shared the dais with BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and slammed the Congress-led UPA Government, the Army has recommended a high-level probe against former Army Chief, Retd. General VK Singh.

The Army has requested the Defence Ministry to order a probe into the functioning of a top secret intelligence unit set by Gen VK Singh, saying it may have carried out “unauthorised operations” and “financial wrongdoings”.

The Army report, which was prepared by Director General Military Operations Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia, who is part of a Board of Officers (BOO), which reviews the functioning of the top secret unit. The BOO was formed by General Bikram Singh.

The Army believes that the secret intelligence unit set by Gen VK Singh had tried to topple the Omar Abdullah government in Jammu & Kashmir and also tried to block General Bikram Singh’s promotion. Meanwhile, Gen VK Singh and the BJP called the latest development as a “political vendetta”.
