Archer Pratima Boro allegedly committed sucide. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room at the Army Sports Institute (ASI) near Ghorpuri in Pune on Friday afternoon. She was one of the best archers from Kokrajhar, Assam.
Pratima was a railway employee and training at the ASI as part of the national camp. Her death is a shock for the entire Assam archery fraternity. Sources said that she attended the training session at 7 am yesterday, but did not come for the second session that started at 9 am.
Her colleague found her hanging from the fan at around 1.30 pm. She was taken to hospital where she was declared dead. The reason behind her suicide is unknown. Police found no suicide note in the room. Her colleagues said that she was disturbed and tense these days due to some family issues.
The Assam Archery Association Pratima has written letters to the Archery Association of India (AAI), the Army authorities in Pune, and the Sports Authority of India, seeking probe into the incident. She had represented India in international meets held in Mexico and Shanghai in 2009.
