The BCCI ended Azharuddin’s cricket career after former South African skipper Hansie Cronje went public, admitting his involvement in match-fixing and made starting revealations that Azharuddin had introduced him to the bookies.

The BCCI had then ordered a probe into the allegations and also the CBI had launched an investigation into all match-fixing claims. After the investigation, the BCCI had imposed a five-year ban on Ajay Jadeja and a life ban on Mohammad Azharuddin.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has said in clear terms that life ban on Azharuddin is completely illegal and it should be lifted. It would be interesting to see how the BCCI reacts to the latest development.
