Bhubaneswar: The government issued alert in Odisha after a migratory bird was tested positive for bird flu in Chilika. A team of experts from Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) visited the Nalabana area to collect the sample of birds for further test.
Alert notice has been issued to the neighbouring districts including Puri, Khordha and Ganjam as part of precaution. The district administration will monitor the situation in poultry farms.
The precautionary measures came after one bird was tested positive for avian influenza following a test conducted at High Security Animal Disease (HSAD) Laboratory in Bhopal. The authorities suspected the birds from Siberia are infected with the virus that could further spread the disease in Odisha.
