TNI Bureau: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), whose another branch was set up at Sijua, an outskirt of the Odisha capital, will be named as Bhubaneswar AIIMS. The medical authorities have decided to rename the institute, which was being operated in the name of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose AIIMS.
The decision came after a bill renaming as Bhubaneswar AIIMS was passed in the parliament.
However, it is yet unclear under which criteria the institute was renamed from Subhash Bose AIIMS to Bhubaneswar AIIMS. It had officially begun functioning at Sijua on September 21. However, the construction work for the hospital and medical college is underway.
The classes for the first batch of MBBS course in the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose AIIMS had started with 50 seats, out of which 18 are Odia students. A total of 38 boys and 12 girls have enrolled into the Bachelor course in Medicine and Surgery this year.
