TNI Bureau: The British rock band Muse has been selected to provide the official song for the London 2012 Olympics. The song, “Survival,” is a thundering rock anthem that will be broadcasted for the first time on 5th July on BBC radio.

The song will be played during the July 27-August 12 Olympics at various sessions of the Games including when athletes enter the stadium, in the lead up to the medal ceremony and also as the theme for all international TV coverage across the globe.

Muse’s front-man, Matt Bellamy says that the song was written with the Olympics in mind and “expresses a sense of conviction and determination to win.” “It’s a huge honour to have the track chosen as such a major part of the mega sports event”, he added.

Muse was formed in 1994 and has sold 15 million copies of five studio albums. Last month, the trio carried the Olympic torch through their hometown of Teignmouth in southwest England as part of the flame’s 8,000-mile journey to the games.

A unique music programme for the Olympic Games called ‘Rock the Games’ is being created which features live performances and exclusive new recorded tracks from various artists.

Five official songs have been composed for ‘Rock The Games’, led by Muse. Four other songs have been specially composed for the games, and recorded by Elton John vs. Pnau, Delphic, Chemical Brothers and Dizzee Rascal. They are due for release between July 16 and August 6.
