TNI Bureau: India had a disappointing day at London Olympics barring a few consolations. Vijender Singh (Boxing), Soumyajit Ghosh (Table Tennis) and Parupalli Kashyap (Badminton) were the only saving grace for India.

Archery: The Men’s Archery team lost to Japan in the tie-break in the quartefinals.

Badminton: In Mixed Doubles, V Diju and Jwala Gutta lost their opening group game. Parupalli Kashyap won his opening match against Yuhan Tan of Belgium in straight sets. Indian women’s doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa lost their opening group match to the Japanese duo of Mizuki Fujii and Reika Kakiiwa.

Rowing: Rower Swaran Singh came fourth in his heats in single sculls.

Shooting: Vijay Singh failed to qualify for the finals of 10m Air Pistol event, as he finished 31st in the qualifying round.

Boxing: Teenage boxing sensation Shiva Thapa lost 9-14 to his Mexican rival Oscar Valdez Fierro in the bantamweight opening round bout. Vijender Singh defeated Kazakhstan’s Danabek Sukhanov 14-10 to move into the pre-quarterfinals of middleweight (75kg) event.

Table Tennis: Ankita Das lost the first round match and crashed out of the medal race. 19-year-old Soumyajit Ghosh prevailed over Brazil’s Gustavo Tsuboi 11-9, 14-12, 7-11, 12-10, 5-11, 12-0 (4-2). He moved into the second round.

Lawn Tennis: Sania Mirza and Rushmi Chakravarthi crashed out of the Women’s Doubles at London Olympics after losing to Hia Jung Chuang and Su Wei Hsieh of Taipei in three sets.

Weightlifting: Soniya Chanu finished a dismal seventh with a total weight of 171 kg – below her personal best. he managed 74Kgs in snatch and 97Kgs in clean and jerk.
