TNI Editorial: Resignation is one of the most difficult decisions in public life. When leaders step down, it often reflects an acceptance of political and moral accountability in the face of extraordinary circumstances. Such moments should strengthen democratic values, not become occasions for personal ridicule.

In a healthy democracy, both protest and dissent deserve respect, just as accountability deserves dignity. While political opponents are entitled to celebrate a victory, triumphalism, mockery and arrogance only diminish the quality of public discourse. Politics remains completely unpredictable. Today’s winner may face a tough test tomorrow. Humility in victory remains the hallmark of a mature democracy.
