5 Indian Jawans killed in Sudan

At least five Indian Army personnel, including a Lieutenant Colonel, were killed in South Sudan when the rebels launched a massive attack on a convoy laden with peacekeeping forces. Seven civilians working for the UN Peacekeeping Mission were also killed in the attack.

At least five more Indian Army personnel were also injured in the attack. The convoy with 37 people, was heading to Bor town when it came under attack near Gumuruk town.

The deceased were identified as Lt. Col. Mahipal Singh, Naib Subedar Shiv Kr Pal, Havaldars Heera Lal and Bharat Sasmal and Sipahi Naval Kishore. The injured were flown to Juba for further treatment.
