Weeks after flash floods and landslides devastated the hill state Uttarakhand, 40 bodies have been found in different parts of Uttar Pradesh. The search operation is still on for the thousands of missing people. While the state government put the number of people at 3,064, an agency of the UN estimated the figure more than 11000.
On the other hand, the Uttarakhand government said that the victims who are untraced will be presumed as dead after July 15. Later, the government will start the process of paying compensation to their families.
Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, who is facing flak from BJP and other groups for his failure to handle the situation, said that 3,064 people are missing after the disaster. However, a panel formed by the government was completely confused on the data.
