The relations between the Congress and Samajwadi Party deteriorated further, as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has ordered the withdrawal of 24/7 power supply to VIP constituencies Rae Bareli and Amethi, represented by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi respectively.

The decision was taken by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd, but certainly on the orders of Akhilesh Yadav. The decision to provide round-the-clock power to both these constituencies was taken nine months ago when ties between the Congress and Samajwadi Party were going strong.

At least nine districts, including Amethi, Rae Bareli, Mainpuri, Kannauj, Etawah, Sambhal and Rampur were given the VIP status because of the close proximity to the senior leaders of the Samajwadi Party and Congress. While other districts continue to get the benefits, only Amethi and Rae Bareli had to bear the brunt of Samajwadi Party.
