11th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Begins Today

TNI Bureau: The eleventh Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention begins today in the port city of Kochi in Kerla.

The President of Mauritius, Rajkeshwur Purryag is the Chief Guest of the convention.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has emerged as a powerful symbol for the country and its expatriate community to articulate their close ties, by providing a platform to explore means to nurture and strengthen their bonds.

The theme of the Convention is “Engaging Diaspora: The Indian growth story”, which demonstrates the significance of India’s growth that attaches to the contributions made by its overseas population.

Over 2000 delegates from different parts of the world are taking part in the three-day event, which will be formally inaugurated by the Prime Minister on 8th January.

With the government taking a series of steps to further liberalise the entry of foreign capital and technology into the country, the Indian diasporas are expected to contribute more to India’s growth and become an integral part of the country’s economic and social development.

A series of seminars covering a vast range of subjects from Tourism to Investment Opportunities will be held during the three-day event in which Central and State Ministers, experts and eminent speakers will take part.

President Pranab Mukherjee will address the valedictory function on 9th January and confer Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards.

Kerala has been chosen as the host for the convention since Keralites constitute one of the largest expatriate communities of India.
