Rourkela: A wild elephant has killed another person in Sundergarh on Monday morning, taking the death roll in elephant attacks in a month to eight. Anand Singh (72), a tribal resident of Chikitideri village of Chitapidi GP under Nuagaon Block of Sundergarh District in the Bisra police station limits, has become the latest victim.

Anand had gone to the field in the morning at about 5.00 AM. At that time, the jumbo herd was roaming around the field. They pushed him to the ground and trampled him to death. After the tusker herd left the place, the villager rushed there and found him dead.

It is to be mentioned here that on December 25 night, an elephant killed Pramila Ekka and her three-year-old son Rohit at Bihadihi village. On December 29, it struck Jharmunda village, killing William and Phulamoni Ekka. Again on January 3, Kastu Bariah fell prey to the same rogue elephant. The elephant was finally captured tranquillised. But, it could not recover from the tranquillisation and died.

It was expected that the tusker rampage would come to an end, but it has been brewing in Bisra-Nuagaon areas. Adequate steps are being taken to prevent the elephant menace, says Bisra Forest Range Officer Sudhansu Ch. Sahani.
