Supplementary Budget presented in Odisha Assembly amidst Ruckus

TNI Bureau: The supplementary budget of Rs 3923.41 crore was presented in Odisha Assembly today by the state finance minister Prasanna Acharya amidst ruckus made by the opposition Congress. They demanded the cancellation of question hour to discuss on farmers’ losses and damaged crops.

The budget provides Rs 100 crore for the waiver of farmers’ loans, seeks Rs 230.33 crore expenditure of Home Department, Rs 32.44 crore for police modernisation and Rs 75.50 crore for improving infrastructure of police stations in Naxal-hit areas. In the budget, Rs 80 crore has been provided for the construction of cement and concrete roads in the state.

Amidst uproar by the opposition, Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat adjourned the house twice till 12 pm and then 3 pm. Finally, the house was adjourned till tomorrow as the opposition disrupted the proceedings.

The leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh raised the farmers’ issue demanding the cancellation of the question hour to discuss key issues related to agriculture and farming.

The members of Congress supported Singh and rushed to the well shouting the anti-government slogans today.
