Soumya Ranjan’s Supporters attack Congress Bhavan

In a big development today, a huge group of people, allegedly supporters of expelled Congress leader Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, attacked the Congress Bhavan and vandalised the properties, resulting in a clash with pro-Jayadev Jena supporters.

Congress-BhavanHeavy police deployment has been made to control the situation, which almost went out of control despite the early intelligence inputs. The protesters also burnt the effigy of PCC President Jayadev Jena and Union Minister Srikant Jena, accusing them of playing a key role behind the ouster of Soumya.

The mob constituted of mostly youth. They stormed into the Congress Bhavan and ransacked the building by damaging the furniture and other materials. They shouted slogans in support of Soumya Ranjan Patnaik. The police intervened immediately to chase them away.

PCC President Jayadev Jena has condemened the incident, saying “Congress Bhavan is the temple for lakhs of partymen and women in the state. Any attack on our temple is unacceptable”. However, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik has denied the allegations that his supporters were involved in the attack.
