The sportspersons in Rajasthan were forced to sign an affidavit showing no links with RSS or Jamaat-e-Islami before receiving the sports awards after the state government made it mandatory.

It was a bizarre move by the Rajasthan government to ask the sportspersons to sign the paper confessing that they do not have any connection with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) or the Jamaat-e-Islami outfit.

If the rule will not be followed, they will not be entitled for the government awards. Hence, the sportsperson selected for the awards, had to sign the affidavit. Weightlifter Vishal Singh was asked to sign the affidavit to receive Rs 23 lakh award after winning a gold medal.

The RSS strongly objected the government’s decision saying the Congress is playing politics over sports. The sportspersons should not be asked such thing to receive the award.
