After the departure of DMK, the Congress-led UPA was hoping to get the support of Mayawati and Mulayam to survive the acid test in Lok Sabha. However, Mulayam has gone aggressive and demanded the resignation of Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma in return of his support to the government.

Mulayam has taken strong exception to Beni Prasad Verma’s statement that the former takes commission from the UPA to offer his support to the government. He had earlier alleged that Mulayam had links with the terrorists. The Samajwadi Party chief is in no mood to let the opportunity go and gun for Beni’s head.

The latest development has put the Congress in a tight spot, as it needs the support of 22 Samajwadi Party MPs to stay back in power. If Mulayam withdraws support, the government will have no option but to resign. It is believed that Beni Prasad Verma will be made the “scape goat” to save the government.
