Kalinga Hospital introduces ‘Endoscopic Surgery’ for Back Pain

TNI Bureau: Kalinga Hospital, Bhubaneswar’s leading private hospital, introduced a new technique for treatment of back pain without any surgery. “Endoscopic Surgery”, is the new hope for the patients, who are suffering from severe backache and neck pain at very early age.

Addressing a press conference at Kalinga Hospital on Saturday, Dr PC Dey, HOD Orthopedics at the hospital, said that the new treatment will help thousands of patients, who are having back pain. Back pain is a common problem in day to day life due to modern life style and certain other reasons.

Due to advent of advanced technique of investigations like MRI, the cause of back pain is now easily diagnosed with 100% accuracy. The new technique endoscopic spinal disc and sciatica surgery will give the patients relief from severe pain, the doctor said.

Basically there are two causes of back and neck pain that is slipped disc and canal stenosis. The problem is seen in between 20 and 30 of age group. However, with the help of Endoscopic Surgery, the diseases can be cured easily. The biggest thing about the surgery is, it can be performed with single small incison without any stitching and blood loss. The patients need to be at the hospital only one to two days. The patients can go for regular activities even they can play games within 7 to 10 days.

The technique was brought to the Kalinga Hospital by Dr Dey, who took the training under the guidance of Dr Jean Destandau in France. Dr, Jean, who is the president of World Endoscopic Spine Society (WESS), is the pioneer of the technique. He has successfully treated 8000 cases.

In order to train other doctors of Odisha, India and the aboard, Dr Dey will conduct an international training course of the technique on January 3, 4, 5 and 6, 2013 at the hospital. Dr Jean will be present at the training programme along with Dr Halim from Malasia, Dr Mawera from Zimbabwe, Dr Mohammad from Egypt and the doctors from Saudi Arabia, Nigeria.
