TNI Bureau: Indian wing of the British Sports and Luxury Car maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has launched the much awaited 2013 Range Rover Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) in the Indian auto market yesterday in Mumbai. Three variants of the SUV were launched, namely – the Vogue SE at Rs 1.72 crore, Autobiography at Rs 1.79 crore and the range topping Autobiography petrol at Rs 1.84 crore.

The event can be seen as one of the biggest car launches of 2012 in the Indian auto market and it could be possible only because of Tata Motors’ ownership of Jaguar Land Rover, as normally it takes years for launch of a world class global facelift of a luxury car in the country.

The maker company claims the launched vehicles to be the ‘largest automotive panel in the world’ and the world’s first all-aluminum monologue. The company further claims that the body shell (of the SUV) is lighter by about 400kg to provide better agility, performance and fuel efficiency.

Further, Cabin space of the JLR Range is said to have enhanced for the rear seat passengers. The wheelbase is now 40mm more than the previous version and leg space for the middle row is claimed to have been increased by 118mm. Also ground clearance of the SUVs from the Jaguar Land Rover is 18mm more than the earlier versions.

Again, while the wading depth was 700mm for the previous cars, this time it is 900mm. Apart from the five manual options available, once you put the new Terrain Response 2 system into auto setting, it will decide the suspension settings based on the terrain the vehicle is travelling through.

Coming to the engines, the 2013 Range Rover is being offered both in petrol and diesel versions. The 510PS supercharged V8 petrol engine claims to have 0-100km/hr time of 5.1 second while the 258PS SDV8 also offers better acceleration times than the previous version with considerable growth in fuel efficiency for the latest versions.
