England beat Australia in ICC Champions Trophy

Defending champions Australia suffered a major setback, as they lost to England in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy. England players outwitted Australia in every department of the game.

Earlier, England won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted 269/6 in 50 overs. Cook (30), Bell (91), Trott (43) and Bopara (46*) were the top scorers. Clint McKay and Faulkner took two wickets each.

Chasing a victory target of 270, Australia finished at 221/9 in 50 overs and lost by 48 runs. Watson (24), Hughes (30), Bailey (55) and Faulkner (54*) were the top contributors. Anderson took three wickets, while Bresnan took two wickets. Ian Bell was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
