College Teachers clash with Police in Bhubaneswar

The Lower PMG near Odisha Assembly in Bhubaneswar turned into a battlefield, as the private college teachers clashed with the police during the protests. At least 50 people, including many women got injured in the clashes.

The police resorted to lathicharge and lobbed teargas shells to disperse the mob. The angry teachers pelted stones at the policemen. Water canons were also used to control the mob.

Around 200 people have been taken into custody. 41 of them were forwarded to the court. The teachers alleged that they were badly beaten up. However, the police claimed that the teachers turned violent and wanted to breach Section 144 and enter the Assembly.

The teachers and employees of 1,150 private colleges in Odisha have been agitating for 80 days demanding scrapping of block-grant system of payment and implementation of grant-in-aid mode of salary.
