‘Chennai Express’ mints Rs 33 Crore on Opening Day

Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Chennai Express’ broke the record set by Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, as it grossed Rs 33.12 crore on the opening day at the Box Office. ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ had earned Rs 31.25 crore on the first day of its release.

Chennai-Express-Lungi-Dance‘Chennai Express’, which has received rave reviews from the movie critics, made another record by collecting Rs 6.75 crore from paid previews across India. The previous record was held by Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’, which had earned Rs 2.7 crore.

The movie was released across 3,500 screens across the country on August 9. While the film and the performance of SRK and Deepika were appreciated by all, the ‘Lungi Dance’ performance, which is a tribute to South’s Superstar Rajinikanth (Thalaiva or The Boss), has swept everyone off their feet.
