Asian Athletics: Women’s 4x400m Team win Gold

After the golden feat of Vikas Gowda in Discus, India’s Women 4x400m relay team, consisting of Nirmala, Tintu Luka, Jose Anu Mariam and Poovamma won the gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championship in Pune. India finished sixth in the points table with two gold, six silver and nine bronze medals.

Indian-WomenIt was an improved show by the Indian Athletes, who had finished seventh at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championship in Kobe, Japan. They had won one gold, three silver and eight bronze medals in 2011.

The Indian women team clocked 3:26 minutes to finish at the top in the Women’s 4x400m relay race. Chinese Women took the silver, as they fell behind by just two seconds. Japan won the bronze medal.

China finished on the top in the Asian Athletics Championship with 16 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze medals. Bahrain secured the second spot with five gold medals. Japan came third because of less number of gold medals although they won more medals overall.
